Common name: Bat Dracula.
Distribution: Southern Colombia and northern Ecuador.
Habitat: An epiphyte of cool, montane forests, where it establishes in shady places, at elevations of 1500 to 2000 meters.
Etymology: Dracula, the Latin diminutive of draco, a dragon, but also a word associated with the dark and fascinating figure of the Romanian Prince of Wallachia, Vlad III Dracula (also known as Vlad Tepes, 1431–1476 or 1477), accused of vampirism, the son of Vlad II Dracul, who was given the name by the Order of the Dragon; chiroptera, from the name of the mammals order that includes baths, for the resemblance of the flower to a bat face.
Nombre común: Drácula murciélago.
Distribución: Del Sur de Colombia al Norte del Ecuador.
Hábitat: Una epífita de los bosques montanos fríos, donse se establece en lugares sombríos, a elevaciones de 1500 a 2000 metros.
Etimología: Dracula, del diminutivo Latín de draco, un dragón, pero también una palabra asociada con la figura oscura y fascinosa del Príncipe rumeno de Wallachia, Vlad III Dracula (también conocido como Vlad Tepes, 1431–1476 o 1477), acusado de vampirismo, el hijo de Vlad II Dracul, quien recibió su nombre del Orden del Dragón; chiroptera, del nombre de la orden de mamíferos que incluye a los murciélagos, por la semejanza de la flor con la cara de un murciélago.
